Voters Defend Democracy on Election Day

Despite anti-voter laws, mis- and disinformation, election deniers, and poll worker shortages, the American voters showed up to make their voices heard.

We saw record-breaking voter turnout in many states across the nation, particularly related to early voting.

Pro-Voter Victories Across the US

November saw pro-voter victories in states including Missouri, Tennessee, and Arizona.

Following a suit brought by the LWV of Arizona, federal courts issued an order to block voter intimidation at the ballot box.

Shortly after, a Missouri judge blocked the enforcement of several provisions criminalizing voter engagement; LWV were plaintiffs on this case.

On the same day, the LWV of Tennessee and ACLU of Tennessee secured the right to vote for the citizens of Davidson County, hundreds of whom had received incorrect ballots.

LWV Calls on Congress to Protect Dreamers

The League called on Congress to pass legislation protecting recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, otherwise known as Dreamers.

Per CEO Virginia Kase Solomón, "A true democracy includes fair and equitable immigration policies with a path to citizenship. With just a few short working weeks left this year, we call on Congress to take immediate action to protect the Dreamers for once and for all."
