The State of Democracy

Happy Women's History Month (WHM)!

Here are a few ways you can promote women's equality:

1. Urge Congress to stand for gender equality and assert that the Equal Rights Amendment is part of the Constitution!

2. Test how well you know America's female democracy icons.

3. Create and share WHM content, like this video.

4. Find WHM events and advocate in your community with your local League!

The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act is Introduced to the Senate

February closed with the Senate's introduction of the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which would restore crucial components of the Voting Rights Act.

Let Congress know you support this pro-voter legislation!

Voting Rights Victories — and Challenges

In a victory for North Dakota voters, a federal judge dismissed a challenge to North Dakota’s mail-in voting process.

Meanwhile, LWV of Mississippi and partners took legal action to protect voters using absentee ballots. Peg Ciraldo, co-president of the LWV of Mississippi, stated, “This case is an undemocratic attempt to disenfranchise voters who take all the right steps to vote.”

Birthdays and Bidding Farewell

LWV celebrated it's 104th birthday with a virtual panel discussing the importance of young voters.

The panel also honored the work of our beloved late president, Dr. Deborah Ann Turner. We've created this memorial page to celebrate Dr. Turner's impact and memory.

Additionally, in February we bid farewell to our former CEO, Virginia Kase Solomón, who transitioned into a new role at Common Cause. In her final blog, Virginia restates her belief in the power of women.

While League president Sania Irwin leads the search for our next CEO, Alma Couverthie and Kelly McFarland Stratman are serving as interim co-CEOs.
